St. John of God (1495-1550)

In the first half of the sixteenth century, John Cuidad, without knowing his way wandered as a shepherd, soldier, labourer and bookseller searching for the meaning of his life. Finally he dedicated the rest of his life for the suffering, sick and the needy, after listening to a sermon, which helped him to experience the mercy and compassion of God, preached by a holy man named John Avila. The people of Granada started calling him John of God. Today through the Charism of Hospitality, the spirit of St. John of God is spread throughout the world. John of God is a guide, a paradigm, and inspiration, power and passion for the people of today, who suffer and wander without knowing the meaning and goal of life.
